1. Brower type.
The type of browser you use can make a big difference on how the contents will be displayed on a web page. Internet browsers come from various company programmers and the type of platform and utilities they use could also differ. Internet browsers read the HTML tags and display them the way the browser is designed and it could have a different result to that of the webmaster (web developer).
There are many browsers out there and it would take some time to investigate them all. These tests mainly focus on Internet Explorer v4 or higher. If you use another browser it is recommended that you also run the manual test pages and compare your result to the examples displayed.

How to fix this problem:

  • First determine if your browser displays all the contents the way it is supposed to be displayed. Do all the manual tests and compare your browser results with those of the test result. If everything is the same then there is no need to change your browser for displaying the InfoCountry contents.
  • Use Internet Explorer v4 or higher (Suggestion only).
  • Upgrade to the newest version of the browser you used.
  • Check the property settings for your browser (Ask any computer dealer for help if you are not sure about these settings).
  • Check the type of operating system you used (This web was developed around a Windows platform).

2. Test support for JavaScript & VBScript.
JavaScript is one of the first (and best known) script languages used with web pages and is supported by most browsers. This web also uses the minimum JavaScript function and might cause no problem
VBScript are Microsoft version of a script language (one of many)  and is not so widely supported by all browsers unlike JavaScript (mainly the old versions). Within InfoCountry, VBScript is not widely used outside the ASP (Active Server Pages) context, but it is however used on some JBNet and Supervisor editing pages.
Both script languages mentioned above will be tested for and you must decide for yourself how much this will effect your browsing.

How to fix this problem:

  • First determine if you really need the script language support for your browser (especially VBScript).
  • Check your Internet settings to make sure if this support is not been disabled.
  • Surf the Internet for possible software to update your browser to support this script.
  • Ask your nearest computer dealer for help and support for possible solutions.

3. Test include files.
In order to organize and maintain stability within the InfoCountry web pages (from the developers side), InfoCountry uses additional text files which are included in the web pages and are used by the browser. This is completely transparent to the user and will show no indication of it's existence when used.
This test will determine if an include file can be read successfully from the clients browser. If your browser do not allowing include files, you will not be unable to surf any pages within InfoCountry.

How to fix this problem:

  • If your browser causes an error while testing this function, you may have no solution to fix the problem. This support is part of the server ASP and you can inform JBNet about this error.
  • You must change your browser or try to obtain help from the computer technical department.
  • Update your browser to the newest version.

4. Test form submit values.
Form submit values refer to information that is transmitted to a specific location after a submit button has been clicked within a form area. This is a very common task performed by many web sites and may not cause any problem with the browser you use.

How to fix this problem:

  • This test will only work when you click on the 'test again' button at the automatic test result page. Make sure you did indeed click that button.
  • Try to update the browser to a new (or newest) version.
  • Your browser may be corrupted, try and re-install the browser application.

5. Test sessions values.
Sessions are information which are temporary hosted on the clients computer and  is available and used as long as the session exists. That is, as long as the browser navigates through the existing web site.
InfoCountry relies highly on sessions to navigate through the pages, it also keeps track on requests made by clients when it requires information from a database. The information is referenced to information relating to the web site and not to that of the clients computer. No personal information from the clients computer will be captured or used during any session while surfing on the InfoCountry web site.
Sessions expire the moment the browser has closed. No references to sessions will be kept on the clients computer after it has expired. The use of sessions tells the browser what the client has requested and not who the client is.
On the technical side a session is a temporary cookie value which expires (withdraws from the clients computer memory) the moment the browser closes or when the session has timed out.

How to fix this problem:

  • Check if your browser cookie setting is enabled.
  • Various protection software or firewall utilities block the use of session values. Check which software blocks the session value and determine if you need to disable this blocking service.
  • Check your browser manual if it supports ASP sessions.
Note: Active Server Pages (ASP) is a server application and does not run on your local computer. The session value must be hosted on your local computer in order to be used within InfoCountry.

6.Test cookie values.
By this time most people know what cookies is, but for those who do not spend much time at the bakery lets discuss some basics.
Cookies relating to Internet browsing, refer to small text files stored (normally permanently) on your computer. The size of the text file is very small and is not of much concern. Cookies are one of the oldest and yet still very active utilities used by web sites to identify previous visitors. For example, with relation to InfoCountry, when a town is selected a cookie will be saved on your computer. After you disconnect from the Internet and re-connect later and go back to InfoCountry, then it will start with the town you previously selected. This is done by checking the cookie value stored on your computer. When you delete this cookie, the browser cannot detect which town you selected previously.
Generally speaking a cookie is used by web sites to track down your previous browsing actions within that specific web site. Many people are concerned about the safety of enabling cookies on the computer. Within InfoCountry the use of cookies are completely harmless and is used to make your browsing experience easier. To allow cookies on your computer is up to you.
Note: During the test you may find that it works well, but while working on InfoCountry and returning at a later stage you may find that it did not return to your previous selected option. When this happens you might have installed a utility that automatically erased all cookie files after you exit from the Internet or turned off your computer, else Sessions were enabled and cookie is disabled on your browser settings.

How to fix this problem:

  • Check if your browser supports the use of cookies.
  • Check if your browser cookies setting is enabled.
  • Verify that no utility installed on your computer automatically erases the cookies or else block it when surfing the Internet.

7. Check if a Town ID\Name &  Personal Preferences is set on your computer.
Both the Town ID and Name and the Personal Preferences (PP) are cookie values which are stored on a clients computer. Read the previous article about cookies on how it is used within InfoCountry. A Town ID and Name will change every time you select a town from the available list. Only one Town ID and Name will be set and therefore it will override the previous values.
The Town ID/Name and PP references provide information to the browser about your previous selections and it is also used within a session (see the articles about sessions for more details) to open the correct town information and references. New visitors to InfoCountry will have no Town ID/Name set on their computer until they select a town from the town selection page. The main purpose by using a Town ID/Name and Personal Preferences (PP) is to provide a user-friendly environment to clients within InfoCountry. NOTE: The Personal Preferences (PP) settings is only available for the Editor (including the business editor), the Supervisors and for JBNet.

How to fix this problem:

  • Read the article about Sessions and follow their 'how to fix this problem' options.
  • Read the article about Cookies and follow their 'how to fix this problem' options.

8. Database retrieve value. (See if info from database is read). .
This is a very simple test to determine if a InfoCountry database can be successfully accessed from your computer. If this test fails, it will more likely cause an error on the page then display an error test result. If anything accepts an OK test result is displayed then the test has failed. The whole InfoCountry is database driven and requires strong database interactions. Normally all database interactions are executed by the ASP on the server and will not cause any problems on a local computer.

How to fix this problem:

  • If any problem is displayed then the server and not your local computer cause the problem.
If the test fails please call your local Supervisor or send a message to JBNet at the JBNetInfo surfers form (if you can access it).
The following information must be provided: Your name (or nickname), Contact number, Type of browser used, Browser version, Do you have more than one browser installed on your computer. Do you work via an Intranet connection? The Time and Date when it happened.

9. Check the average time to read all the InfoBiz database table records.
This test is a simple query to one of InfoCountry databases and determines how long it takes to read all the records within that database. As the database becomes bigger the time to access all the records will increase.
The purpose of this test will determine how fast your Internet connection is and how much time it takes to read the InfoCountry data.
This is just for reference for clients and a suitable maximum time of 5 seconds is acceptable. If it takes longer than 5 seconds, it does not mean that there is something wrong with the database or your Internet connection. It is just a simple 'nice to know' reference.

How to fix this problem:

  • If any error is caused while performing this test refer to the previous test (Database retrieve value) for support.

10. Read the directory where the pictures are stored and read picture attributes.
This will test if you are able to successfully access the directory where the upload images are stored. If the test is successful then it means that you will also be able to view client's images on JBNetInfo, InfoTown and InfoBiz. pages (if they have uploaded any).

How to fix this problem:

  • If any problem is displayed then it was caused by the server and not your local computer.
If the test failed please call your local Supervisor or send a message to JBNet at the JBNetInfo surfers form.
The following information must be provided: Your name (or nickname), Contact number, Type of browser used, Browser version, Do you have more than one browser installed on your computer, Do you work via an Internet connection and the Time and Date when it was caused.
